Adventure Overview

The Har Ki Dun–Ruinsara Tal Trek combines lush valleys, alpine meadows, and glacial lakes in Uttarakhand’s Govind National Park. It offers stunning views of Swargarohini and Black Peak, while passing through ancient villages like Osla. The extension to Ruinsara Tal adds solitude, serenity, and unmatched Himalayan beauty to the experience.

Itinerary

Day 1: Drive from Dehradun to Sankri

Begin your journey with a scenic 8–10 hour drive from Dehradun to Sankri, a remote village nestled in the foothills of Uttarkashi district. The route follows the Yamuna and Tons rivers and passes through pine forests and small mountain settlements. On arrival, check into a guesthouse and rest for the trek ahead.

Day 2: Sankri to Puani Garat (via Taluka)

After an early breakfast, take a short jeep ride to Taluka, the trek’s starting point. From here, begin your trek alongside the Supin River, through dense forests, waterfalls, and traditional wooden villages. After about 12 km, reach Puani Garat, a peaceful riverside campsite surrounded by tall deodar trees.

Day 3: Puani Garat to Boslo

Today’s trek ascends gradually as you pass the charming village of Osla, known for its heritage wooden temple dedicated to Duryodhana. From there, continue through meadows and forested ridges to reach Boslo, an open campsite offering views of the Swargarohini and surrounding peaks.

Day 4: Boslo to Har Ki Dun & Marinda Tal, return to Boslo

This is the most rewarding day of the trek. Trek to Har Ki Dun valley, a pristine U-shaped valley encircled by snowy peaks. Spend time exploring the meadows and then hike a short distance further to Marinda Tal, a small glacial lake. Return to Boslo for the night.

Day 5: Boslo to Untigad via Debshu Bugyal

Leave Boslo and head toward Ruinsara side of the trail. Cross Debshu Bugyal, a stunning alpine meadow, and descend toward the Supin River before entering pine and rhododendron forests. Camp at Untigad, a peaceful and remote campsite located en route to Ruinsara Tal.

Day 6: Untigad to Ruinsara Tal, return to Untigad

Trek deeper into the wilderness toward the magical Ruinsara Tal, a glacial lake nestled beneath the shadow of Black Peak (Kalanag). Surrounded by birch trees and towering mountains, the lake is sacred to locals and incredibly scenic. After spending time there, return to Untigad for an overnight stay.

Day 7: Untigad to Puani Garat

Retrace your steps from Untigad back to Puani Garat. The trail gradually descends, offering different views of the valleys and surrounding forests. The trek is long but gentle and allows you to enjoy the peaceful beauty of the Supin valley once again.

Day 8: Puani Garat to Taluka, Drive to Sankri

On your final trekking day, hike back to Taluka via the same forested route. After reaching Taluka, drive back to Sankri and settle into a guesthouse. The rest of the day is for rest and reflection after a long and rewarding trek.

Day 9: Drive from Sankri to Dehradun

After breakfast, drive back to Dehradun, marking the end of your 9-day adventure through two of the most stunning valleys in the Garhwal Himalayas — Har Ki Dun and Ruinsara Tal.
